Card number 2 in the set is quarterback Joe Namath. He was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985. What I think I remember about him: Broadway Joe. Very fashionable, and starred in many commercials. I also remember seeing him in guest appearances in different television shows. Attracted a lot of attention outside the game of football, bringing an increase of female fans to the game. Jets quarterback that made his famous Super Bowl guarantee, and led his team to victory against the Colts in Super Bowl III. Is often mentioned as a player that hung around too long with a final NFL season with the Los Angeles Rams. Had a regrettable incident a few years back with a sideline reporter. What I've found that interests me about him : Not surprising among good athletes, he excelled at multiple sports. He regularly dunked basketballs in high school games, and after graduating high school, where he had played as an outfielder in baseball, he received offers from the Yankees, Indians

#1 Pete Rozelle

Card number 1 in the set is of former NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle. He was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985. What I think I remember about him: He was the commissioner when I first started following the NFL.  His work in television contracts for the NFL included the start of Monday Night Football, and built the NFL in to the hype machine that provides each franchise with large sums of money equally each year.  He had his battles with Al Davis over his franchise move to Los Angeles and a proposed John Elway trade, and with Jim McMahon over headbands. What I've found that interests me about him : Pete was a nickname from his uncle. His real name was Alvin Ray Rozelle. Between stints of working with the Los Angeles Rams before becoming commissioner, he worked for a public relations job that did marketing for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. After the 1956 Olympics, he returned to the Rams as their General Manager, and was voted to be the NFL Commissioner after three year

I like to think that I know the Hall of Fame football players pretty well, but really, I'm sure that I really only have superficial knowledge of each of the players. Going through my cards, I came across a sealed 1988 Swell Greats football card set that I bought at some card show or another. I don't remember when I got it, but I'm okay with the price that I paid for it. The 1988 Swell Greats football card set contains cards of the first 144 members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame . These are all the members from the inaugural Class of 1963 through the Class of 1988. For each blog entry, I plan to show the front and backs of each card, and comment what I like about the cards; comment about some of what I initially know about each Hall of Famer; do a little bit of research on each of them and share some of what I learned that is interesting about them; and if I a
